After Barack Obama made his nomination acceptance speech, John McCain aired a nicely done, class act congratulatory ad.
"Senator Obama, this is truly a good day for America," McCain says, looking directly into the camera. "Too often the achievements of our opponents go unnoticed. So I wanted to stop and say, congratulations."
"How perfect that your nomination would come on this historic day," McCain says, referring to the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" address in Washington. "Tomorrow, we'll be back at it. But tonight senator, job well done."
So how does the Obama campaign react to the news that John McCain selected Sarah Palin as his VP?
The Obama camp could not stay on the high road and say something like, "Congratulations, Governor Palin, we look forward to a spirited race." No, the first thing the Obama team did was go low road with baseless attacks. Obama's campaign for example, is blasting McCain for putting "the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency."
See the attempted misinformation and spin folks? Yes, Palin has been a mayor, but Sarah Palin is now the governor of Alaska. The Obama people couldn't bring themselves to call Governor Palin by her proper and deserved title, who by the way works with Canada and Russia on energy and economic issues. Governor Palin, the GOP Vice Presidential nominee, has quite a bit more experience than Barack Obama, a man with absolutely no executive experience who wants your vote to become President. Obama is the one with zero foreign policy experience, "a heartbeat away from the presidency." Obama has never run a business, he's never been a mayor, let alone a governor. He's only been a U.S. Senator since 2005 and he's been plotting/running for President since 2006. He's spent more time campaigning, than being a Senator.
Obama spokesman Bill Burton also criticized Palin as a vice presidential pick for her support of drilling for oil in Alaska's North Shore, implying she is in bed with *Big Oil*.
Again, spin by the Democrats. Yes, Palin is a big proponent of drill here, drill now, pay less. She wants the U.S. to become energy independent and get away from dependency on foreign sources of oil, especially when we have so much here at home to drill. But is she in bed with oil companies? Not just no, but hell no.
Palin was the Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, where she served from 2003 to 2004. She resigned in protest over the lack of ethics in the administration of the time. Former Governor Murkowski, a Republican, ignored Palin's whistleblowing complaints of legal violations and conflicts of interest. After Palin resigned and at the risk of her political career, she exposed members of her own party and lobbyists for wrongdoing. Her formal complaints lead to the resignation of top officials. She later took Murkowski's job.
The Democrats are scrambling to gather responses to the selection of Palin as VP. The inexperienced Obama team instantly defaulted to old school politics. They went into attack mode, they misinformed, they attempted to diminish the political record of woman with integrity.
