IOWA CITY, IA. -- This seminar, scheduled for 7 PM on Wednesday June 17 at the Iowa City Senior Center, is designed to help adult children and their aging parents deal with those sensitive life topics that often make conversations difficult. How do you talk with your mom and dad about driving, dating, and independence, and when do you start? This seminar features a series of situations followed by possible responses for some of the most awkward senior subjects. The seminar will be presented by Buck Stark, franchise owner of Home Instead Senior Care serving Johnson and surrounding counties.

Editor's Note: Why is the government even involved in something like this? Seriously, why are Iowa Citians paying a city employee to plan and coordinate such things? Why are city resources being wasted on something like this? As if it's government business? As if seniors and their children are inept? And if they are, as if they don't have friends, neighbors, churches and other community organizations to turn to?

The seminar was presented by a private care provider that was mentioned in the notice that you provided, "Home Instead Senior Care".
The senior center provided space for that seminar to take place, quite like the Library provides space for various reasons.
The topic of that seminar is an important one being faced by elderly people and their adult children. Its useful to address matters related to seniors in a group setting. This topic is more complicated than you seem to think.

Typical liberal excuse making and spin. Charlotte seems to think taxpayer money should be spent on any topic, any issue. Why, how DARE we question such things!
So what if a private care provider presented? A city employee was still paid by taxpayers to coordinate and pull off the event. City resources (taxpayer resources) were used to conduct the event, city resources were used to clean up the event. THAT COSTS MONEY Sherlock!
Yes, the Senior Center provided space for the seminar to take place, much like the library does - THAT COSTS MONEY Sherlock!
Yes, the topic for the seminar is important, that's not being questioned, why the government is pushing that agenda though IS.
This was not a proper role of government, it's an area taxpayers shouldn't be coughing up money for. THAT'S THE POINT Sherlock.
The economy, budgets and the proper role of government are more complicated that you seem to think Charlotte. Grow a brain.
