Senator Chris Dodd (Liberal - Connecticut), one of the leading advocates of total U.S. health care reform, revealed today that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
According to reports the prostate cancer was caught early and he will be fine. That's good news. His surgery is scheduled for early August.
One of the biggest critics of health care in this country, Dodd has pushed hard for the *public option,* a.k.a. Obamacare, a government-run insurance program. He has also pushed for an "employer mandate" requiring the public option.
Question: So given how critical Dodd has been about health care in the U.S., about how our health care is sooooooooo bad and in *crisis*, will Senator Dodd be getting his prostate cancer surgery done in England or Canada?

IOWA CITY, IA. -- A report of a man displaying a handgun at Los Cocos began an apparent chain-reaction of related events that culminated with numerous shots fired in a neighborhood on the southeast side of Iowa City.
At 1:58am today, police received a report from a female complainant that a man had just "pulled a gun" on her while she was at Los Cocos, 1921 Keokuk St. The caller further reported that the suspect was leaving in a tan Buick LeSabre and provided a license plate number. Responding officers stopped the suspect vehicle at the Suburban Amoco, 1905 Keokuk St. The vehicle was occupied by two persons. Another person, not from the vehicle, fled from police. The person fled across Highway 6 into a residential neighborhood. Officers pursued and apprehended him in the 1400 block of Plum St where he had fallen after breaking his ankle. The suspect had an active warrant for his arrest. Additionally, police seized three bags of marijuana with a total weight of 74 grams. Dorrell Anthony Lyle (date of birth: June 16, 1979) of 203 Myrtle Av #118 was arrested on the outstanding warrant. He was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics for treatment of his fractured ankle and then to the Johnson County Jail. Iowa City Police filed the following additional charges:
• Controlled Substance Violation- Marijuana ("D" felony) per Iowa Criminal Code 124.401(1)(d);
• Interference with Official Acts (simple misdemeanor) per Iowa Criminal Code 719.1;
• Intoxication/Consumption (simple misdemeanor) per Iowa Criminal Code 123.46.
Lyle apparently was not involved in the incident at Los Cocos or the stop of the suspect vehicle nearby. It seems he fled because police were saturating the area, he was wanted by police, and he was holding illegal drugs.
At the same time officers were pursuing and arresting Lyle, other officers were dealing with the occupants of the suspect vehicle. The two occupants of the vehicle were cooperative. No gun was located on their persons or in the vehicle. The complainant never presented herself to officers and calls to her cell phone went unanswered. Los Cocos staff was unable to assist. Police eventually allowed the two persons being detained to leave.
At 2:51am, police received a report from a female complainant at Town & Campus Apartments, 1100 Arthur St. The caller reported she had just been assaulted ("slapped") by a male known to her and that the suspect had just left in a gray car. The complainant said the suspect was a 29-year-old black male, short, medium build, and was wearing a blue and white baseball cap, a white t-shirt, and jeans. The complainant said she did not need an ambulance and was waiting near the driveway for officers. Responding officers did not locate the complainant and were told she had left. Police were unable to locate anyone who would provide any additional information.
At 3:58am, police responded to a report of shots being fired at 2650 Whispering Prairie Av. A caller reported that two suspects had approached from Nevada Av on foot and started shooting. Afterward, the suspects ran back toward Nevada Av. They were described as a dark-skinned black male with a goatee, and a second black male wearing a black shirt and shorts. Responding officers spoke with four persons at 2650 Whispering Prairie Av and were told the following:
The 33-year-old female resident of the home was the same complainant from the prior call at 1100 Arthur St. She reported she had been assaulted and threatened ("I'm going to kill you and your baby's daddy!") outside of Town & Campus Apartments by one of the two men who had been stopped by police earlier in the night. The men were upset about being stopped. Rather than speak with police who were responding to Arthur St, she had returned to her home on Whispering Prairie Av. She had been sitting outside in the driveway with friends when the same two men approached on foot. At least one of the men began firing a handgun toward the complainant and her guests. The complainant and her associates scrambled for safety and no one was shot. The suspects ran toward Nevada and were picked up by a female waiting for them in a car.
Officers recovered shell casings and bullet fragments. Four bullet strikes were also identified; two on a vehicle parked in the driveway and two on the house.
This is an active investigation and police are pursuing leads. Any witnesses to any part of the incident, or any persons with any information they believe may be useful to the investigation, are asked to contact the Iowa City Police Department.

As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
