Fueling speculation that she is positioning herself to run for president, Sarah Palin has resigned as Alaska's governor.
The former Republican vice-presidential candidate caught everyone by surprise with the announcement today. Most anticipated Palin was going to announce she wouldn't be making a re-election bid for governor in 2010. Nobody considered the possibility she was going to announce her resignation.
Palin, who electrified the Republican party last year, said she will step down in three weeks and hand power over to her deputy, lieutenant governor Sean Parnell.
Stating she can contribute more outside the office of governor, Palin used an analogy of playing point guard in a game of basketball, knowing when to pass the ball and when to shoot in order to achieve victory.
Palin is a front runner among conservative Republicans as a potential presidential candidate.

she probably got tired of all the attention; maybe she's not cut out to be a celebrity after all
