The Iowa Hawkeyes lost at home to the Northwest Wildcats by a score of 17-10 on Saturday. The loss drops Iowa to 9-1 with two games remaining in the season.
Iowa was up 10-0 in the first half but quickly lost momentum when quarterback Ricky Stanzi went down with an ankle injury. On the play, the Wildcats sacked Stanzi in the Iowa endzone which resulted in a fumble with Northwestern recovering for a touchdown.
With Stanzi watching from the sidelines in the second half sporting a boot and crutches, the Iowa offense never got anything going with backup quarterback and redshirt freshman James Vandenberg.
Iowa was ranked #4 in the BCS standings, behind Texas, Alabama and #1 ranked Florida.
The Hawkeyes travel to Columbus, Ohio next week to face the 16th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.
