IOWA CITY, IA. -- On Friday, January 1, 2010, at 1:46 AM, the Iowa City Police Department received a report of a man armed with a knife attacking another man near the intersection of Bowery Street and Johnson Street. Upon arrival, officers met with three victims who said they were engaged by the suspect on the sidewalk. The suspect, who was not known by the victims, then brandished a knife and began waiving it in the air. At one point he slashed at one of the victims, striking his coat. The suspect then fled the area on foot while being chased by two acquaintances of the victims. The suspect was last seen running south down the alley between Johnson Street and Dodge Street.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic or light skinned black male, 5'7" with short buzz cut black hair and long side burns. He was wearing a black short sleeve polo shirt and blue jeans. He was accompanied by a white male wearing a maroon puffy coat. The suspect was armed with a 6 or 7 inch knife.
The victims were not injured during the attack.
