The economic news continues to sour, as the Consumer Confidence Index report came in at 50.4 for July, a significant decline from the 54.3 figure for June. The decline follows last month's nearly 10 point drop from the 62.7 reported for May.
With consumer spending accounting for approximately two-thirds of the U.S. economy, it takes a reading of 90 to indicate a healthy economy.
