He never fails to fail me. I remember calling, writing, emailing, generally begging him in '08 to vote against TARP I. He ignored me and voted for it anyway. I later received a letter from him explaining that he was "deceived" and regretted his vote. I voted for the 3rd party candidate for Senate last November, knowing full well that the old Chuckwagon would be back in Washington to disappoint me again. Well, I didn't even have to wait for the new session. He did it in the lame duck! I wrote to him asking him to oppose Dick Durbin & Tom Harkin's new "Food Safety" legislation. I pointed out in my correspondence that this bill was not about "food safety" (see Sen Orrin Hatch, "Why the Food Safety Bill isn't really safe"). The FDA already has all of the authority that it needs to protect our food supply, just like the Border patrol has all of the authority it needs to protect our border. No, I pointed out, this new legislation is simply another federal power grab and a payoff to big agriculture giants Monsanto and ADM (who have contributed handsomely to Senator Grassley). The feds control health care and the banks and now they will be able to control the food supply. Soon, with the new Smart Grid they will control what electricity you can use and with Net Neutrality, they will control the internet and I am certain that the old Chuckwagon will go along with all of this just like he voted in favor of the "food safety" bill today. Folks, we are going to be living in a facist state; your freedoms are being eroded daily and Chuckwagon Grassley typifies the "get along" mentality of the GOP establishment that has sold us out. We have to live with him for another 6 years! Can't we impeach him or at least remove him from all committee leadership? I pray to God that Jim Demint takes over the Republican Senate caucus and that he moves the Chuckwagon to a broom closet somewhere.
