The League of Women Voters, which tells folks it's a non-partisan organization, is taking a rather partisan stance on ObamaCare.
About the LWV: From the 'About Us' page on the national LWV website: "The League of Women Voters is strictly nonpartisan; it neither supports nor opposes candidates for office at any level of government. At the same time, the League is wholeheartedly political and works to influence policy through advocacy."
Fine, they don't endorse candidates (on the record anyway, everyone knows they support whatever Democrat is running), but their stance and approach on the issue outlined below doesn't fit that mission statement above. They're not practicing voter education and policy advocacy, what they're doing is blatant lobbying for a partisan but-not-based-in-the-facts cause.
Why the facade LWV? Why pretend to be something you're not then? Where's the honor in that? Why don't you just come out of the political closet and say you're a women's group for all things Democrat?
Sure, the LWV has the occasional member from time to time of another political stripe, but it's usually just a token attempt and so they can say they're bi-partisan. That's like the liberal Iowa City Depressed-Citizen saying that because they ran a letter to the editor from a conservative, that they're a fair and balanced publication.
Below is a mailing received this morning from the LWV on the issue of ObamaCare. Simply because I'm on their mailing list, they're lobbying me in their liberal way to fight for ObamaCare.
Re: Health Care Reform Vote this Week
This week the House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on repealing the Affordable Care Act, a major step forward in health care for all that has already made a difference by improving health care access and coverage for millions of Americans.
Tell your Representative to oppose repeal of the Affordable Care Act.
As provisions of the Affordable Care Act continue to be implemented, more and more Americans will have health care coverage while health care costs are reduced for individuals, businesses and communities.
Contact your Representative now. You can also call your Representative at 202-225-3121. Ask your Representative not to repeal the Affordable Care Act and to stand firm in support of this law which extends coverage to millions of uninsured Americans. You can also send this alert to other concerned citizens - your grassroots network, your friends and coworkers. Encourage them to contact their elected leaders.

Ladies and gentlemen, that's not simple advocacy or voter education, that's blatant lobbying. Note the language and the misinformation with lines like, "As provisions of the Affordable Care Act continue to be implemented, more and more Americans will have health care coverage while health care costs are reduced for individuals, businesses and communities."
If the LWV cared about the truth, if the LWV truly cared about voter education and issue advocacy, then they would write about reality, the reality being about health care costs going UP as a result of ObamaCare, not down. They would brief readers about government policy related costs driving insurance companies OUT of the health care business. The LWV would tell folks about more states joining the Florida lawsuit fighting the implementation of ObamaCare. The LWV would write to readers about how the Obama administration snuck death panels back into ObamaCare via executive order, despite the general public objecting to that provision causing the removal of it in the final version of the bill that Obama signed into law.
But the LWV isn't interested in a two-sided coin......
