The Iowa City Depressed-Citizen ran a story today about how state Senator Bob "DUI" Dvorsky gives voters an ultimatum of sorts in support for Amtrak rail service from Chicago to Iowa City.
The man is advocating foolishness.
Dvorsky, a liberal, wants to spend YOUR money on a money pit of a train operation, that won't service near as many people as we're told it will, will cost far more to construct than we're being told it will, will cost far more to maintain than we're being told it will. It won't be the economic boon we've been promised it will be.
About four or five years ago, when Amtrak first proposed this, the cost was estimated at around $57 million. Now it's over $300 million.
This is a very bad deal.
