According to a report by the Iowa City DePressed Citizen, members of The Useful Idiot Tour - Iowa City!, are whining about the permit the city of Iowa City issued for the group.
Background: After blantantly violating city ordinances with the protest methods when they started October 7 (we don't need no stinking permit!), after getting around to debating the ongoing ordinance violations in their Borg Collective general assemblies after-the-fact (1. More than 100 people gathered for a stated purpose, 2. Park closes at 11 p.m., 3. No overnight camping in a city park), after finally deciding three weeks AFTER they started to apply for a permit to gather and camp out in the park (public and discreet pressure applied to the group by the way for blantant disregard of rules and concerns about "image"), the group did indeed apply for and the city issued a permit to the occupy group to cover issues 1, 2 and 3 above.
The city is letting the group get away with quite a bit, in fact what the city has done can be called nothing short of sympathetic to the idiot cause.
Now the members of the Occupy group are apparently getting their Borg Collective panties in a wad because in the permit the city issued allowing the group to 1. Gather in the park 100+ people, 2. Be in the park past 11 p.m. and 3. Camp in the park, there is the following clause: “no structure of any kind shall be constructed, built, installed or placed in College Green Park and any such structure is subject to removal without further notice.”
If you'll recall, the group has not only essentially taken over the gazebo and a larger than their fair share of the park preventing normal park use to normal, law-abiding citizens, they started building a wood framed structure for a kitchen.
The Useful Idiot Tour - Iowa City!, is biting the hand that feeds them, that hand being Iowa City government. The Occupy idiots are complaining that the city isn't going to allow them to build their kitchen, pictured right.
The city has already been far too lenient with the group up to this point, letting the useful idiots do pretty much whatever they wanted to do, letting them get away with things that no ordinary citizen or group would be allowed to do.... And yet The Useful Idiot Tour, Iowa City!, continues to whine. I guess they just want to complain about everything.
But that's what liberal-minded folks do, they're always about whine and take, whine and take, whine and take more. Violate whatever as a means to an end - we have an agenda - period. Despite the rhetoric you might hear, it's never about sincere bipartisan concession with these liberal-minded folks. Only what they want to do is what matters, they don't consider sound reasoning or other points of view.
What's next for these folks, what future demands will they make? With violence and arrests taking place at a lot of Occupy sites across the country now, how long will it be before something truly stupid happens in Iowa City resulting in arrests being made and people getting hurt?
This isn't productive protest, this isn't justifiable revolution, it's intentional chaos.
The smell test: Would the city of Iowa City allow a Tea Party group to blow off permits, take over the park gazebo as if it where their own, put up tents and build a wood framed structure in College Green Park? I know, I know, the Tea Party wouldn't even do such things, they would organize a day of protest, get the required permits, clean up after themselves when the day of protest was done, go home, evalute what was accomplished/what wasn't accomplished and then plan the next event.... but play along - would the city of Iowa City treat the Tea Party with the same leniency, er, consistency?
I say they wouldn't.

I was at downtown Panchero's on Saturday when the group came by marching. I counted exactly 58 people in the procession, although some were just taking pictures. But, to be fair, I counted every one of them.
And I thought, on a beautiful fall Saturday, hours before the football game, this group of "growing" movement organizers could only muster 58 people to their biggest event of the week?
How mindblowing.......ly sad. Let's hope the snow flies quickly and get these rats down into their hole.

i can see why nobody in Coralville reads your paper. You print garbage and obviously must be bought out, like most of the media.

Kate,
What do you base your comments on, exactly?
