Polk County District Court Judge Mary Pat Gunderson ruled on Friday that Secretary of State Matt Schultz cannot implement two new rules that would allow 1. for the ability to challenge votes of individuals who appear on state and federal databases as non-citizens and 2. make it easier to report voter fraud.
The ACLU and the United Latin American Citizens of Iowa filed a lawsuit to stop the rules.
In comparing voter registration records with and Iowa Department of Transportation database (remember, you can register to vote when you obtain/renew a license), Schultz has stated he found more than 3,000 people registed to vote but were not citizens.
Instead of working with the Secretary when he first publicly proposed these rules in July, the ACLU and the United Latin American Citizens of Iowa FOUGHT the Secretary.
Gee, why IS that?
Common sense lost in court on Friday.
