Doing the job the local liberal media fails to do.......
The Iowa City DePressed Citizen came out with another puff piece today for the Sutliff Bridge, a.k.a., Rod Sullivan's Bridge to Nowhere.
HEADLINE: Sutliff Bridge Nears Completion
The DePressed Citizen puff piece focuses on, Wow, look how beautiful it looks..... The article also mentions that engineers estimate the bridge will be complete mid-October.
The DePressed Citizen wrote another puff piece for Sullivan's Sutliff Bridge back in June, touting how the bridge was going to be done ahead of schedule, to be completed in September.
WAIT A MINUTE....... The DePressed Citizen forgot to mention that. The article fails to mention that there was some kind of delay and whether or not the project is still on budget. What was the delay, what will the final cost for the bridge be? Why would they leave such details out? Because it doesn't fit the puff piece agenda.
Here's the link to what I wrote on the June DePressed Citizen story: Rod Sullivan's Bridge To Nowhere back in the news
Both of the puff pieces, are designed with the intent of making us all feel good about wasting taxpayer money.
Here's why I renamed the Sutliff Bridge to, Rod Sullivan's Bridge to Nowhere: After the flood of 2008 washed away one-third of the bridge, Johnson County Supervisor Rod Sullivan took up the cause of reconstructing the bridge, despite the fact that the bridge was closed to vehicle traffic 30 years ago. Sullivan abused his position as a county supervisor, wasting county tax dollars by spending time and resources on reworking paperwork to obtain federal tax dollars to pay for the reconstruction. He essentially took some money out of your left pocket, to take a bigger sum out of your right pocket. You see, Sullivan grew up near the bridge (there's a troll joke to be told here), in the Lisbon area. This was a want, not a need. Sullivan focused his time and your money on his desire, not the people's NEEDS.
And to compound Sullivan's theft, realize that people from Alabama, California and other states, people who will never use this bridge, coughed up money for Sullivan's Bridge to Nowhere. How ethical is that? Taking hard-earned money from people..... for a toy? The taxpayer money used for this project should have stayed in taxpayer hands.
Sullivan conned people into putting $1.6 million into a Bridge To Nowhere, a WANT, not a true need. What Sullivan pushed through, was not a proper role of government. Sullivan and a handful of others wanted their toy back and they abused you to get it.
Meanwhile, of the 46 structurally deficient bridges in Johnson County, 34 of those are maintained by the county. Imagine that, bridges that are actually used, bridges that have a valid function, are not being properly maintained by the county...... Sullivan worked SO HARD on the Sutliff Bridge, while ignoring bridges that are actually NEEDED!
