Oscar Mayer Wienermobile makes a stop in Cedar Rapids

Hotdogger Jackie

By Mike Thayer

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA. -- Pulling in from Milwaukee on Thursday and setting up for an event at the HyVee grocery store on Oakland Road, Hotdoggers Jackie Calder and Emma Cuellar were all smiles.

Recent college graduates, Jackie and Emma travel around the Midwest in one of six Wienermobiles that tour the country.  The two had to go to 'Hot Dog School' to become 'Hotdoggers' - pilots of their Wienermobile vehicle dubbed, Our Dog.

These Hotdoggers spend a year traveling across the country making promotional appearances. When asked what her favorite part of being a Hotdogger was, Jackie replied, “It’s always fun to see everyone recognize the Wienermobile,” said Jackie.  “The kids get excited, adults get excited, it’s fun!”

Weinermobile 007The crowd assembling for the event demonstrated that.  One father had pulled his son out of Pierce Elementary School during the lunch hour to attend.

"We couldn't pass up this opportunity to see the wiener on wheels," said Shawn McRae, the father.  Son Keegan agreed, "Everything about the Wienermobile is cool!"

Partipating in the Cedar Rapids Holiday Delight Parade on Saturday evening, the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile will also be conducting events at two HyVee locations on Sunday.
