Why is it so important for Iowa City School Board President Marla Swesey and board member Sarah Swisher to make their 'Diversity' policy official before vote on the school funding ballot issue takes place on February 5th? According to others in the know on this issue, the third reading (the final reading making a policy official) was originally scheduled for February 5 during the board's regularly scheduled monthly meeting. Now all of a sudden, Board president Marla Swesey wants to hold a special meeting for second reading, then the third and final reading on January 15 at the board's first regular monthly meeting of 2013. What's the rush? If I didn't know any better, I would say Swesay wants to speed up the reading process because she wants to minimize growing dissent with the diversity policy. That's a red flag folks.
