Try something new at next week's Taste of Market!

The Iowa City Farmers Market "Taste of Market" event, which was postponed from its original date in late August due to excessive heat, will be held next Wednesday, September 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. (or until the samples run out!). The sampling event, which is free and open to the public, will be set up at the south end of Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp, across from City Hall on Washington Street.

Taste of Market is one of several special events organized by the Farmers Market each season to introduce customers to new foods, promote items that are available for sale at the market, and introduce customers to market vendors. The vendors will provide samples of in-season fresh fruits and vegetables as well as prepared foods, including apple cider donuts, egg rolls, kettle corn, a variety of baked goods, and even some special dishes they've prepared featuring some of their home-grown ingredients.

In addition, Farmers Market and Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department staff will work alongside employees from the University of Iowa Community Credit Union, which is co-sponsoring the event, to prep, grill, and serve samples of market meats and vegetables.

While patrons are enjoying the food, Kol Shira will perform live, offering an entertaining fusion of music and rhythms from around the world.

For more information, contact Farmers Market coordinator Tammy Neumann at the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department at 319/356-5210 or e-mail tammy-neumann@iowa-city.org.
