Structure Fire at 1219 Burns Avenue

IOWA CITY, IA. -- On Friday, October 4th, 2013 at 10:12 am, the Iowa City Fire Department was dispatched for a possible house fire at 1219 Burns Avenue. The fire department initially responded with an engine company, a quint company, a ladder truck, and a battalion chief. The first in units arrived to find smoke and fire showing from the roof of the structure which was a two story, duplex style dwelling. Fire crews brought the fire under control within 30 minutes and the fire was completely extinguished within 40 minutes. All occupants were evacuated and there were no injuries. A total of 16 on duty firefighters responded. Crews were on the scene for approximately three hours. The origin of the fire appears to be in the kitchen with the cause remaining under investigation. The initial damage estimate is at $25,000.00.
